Loss and Nipples - What a Week!

Pardon my French, but this week has sucked like a cheerleader on prom night.  This week has been an epic failure on a colossal level; one so big only a trip to DSW and a German Chocolate cupcake can turn it around.  I know, I know, those are ridiculous pick-me-ups but, in all honesty, this week has been terrible in only the most first-world-problems of ways.  But I still can't wait for it to be over! I have suffered three (3!) losses this week.  I guess the ambiguous league of people who say stuff that is repeated as fact were correct, it really does come in threes.   First, I lost my favorite Sounder. Roger Levesque has been my go-to Sounder for several years now.  He has been with the team for 9 seasons and made the transition from USL to MLS with his mustache in tact.         He has always been a fan favorite for his awesome facial hair, pleasant demeanor and underdog position on the team.  Critics have always q...

Soundwave

I heart the Soundwave. P.S. I am not the girl in this video, nor am I the person taking the video who is obviously very obsessed with the girl. I just think it's a cool version of The Uprising.

After Dexter, it's all downhill...

I didn't realize John Lithgow played in the MLS! Crazy!!

What a View

-- Really? So last season our Sounders season tickets were in the worst section in the entire stadium. Our section was filled with losers. Losers who apparently had two broken legs and suffered from laryingitis and a fear that if they clapped or cheered it would awaken demon spirits from Pandora's box. So we moved. We are in a much more fun section this year. People stand for all 90 minutes, they are loud and rambunctious. They jump up and down, clapping rythmically with the drum. The nice thing is my seat is on the very end of a row, and the row in front of us starts one seat over, so there is noone sitting in front of me, so when I get dizzy and start feeling sick (like today) or am just plain lazy, I can sit down and still see everything going on on the pitch. Except for the one minor detail that would be the jackasses in front of me. For some reason the 4 pompous alcoholics who sit in seats 1-4 one row closer to the field feel that standing in front of their own actual ...

Yep, that just happened

-- It's a good thing I got over my temporary rain phobia because Saturday was a kick in the pants. (I threw that old timey expression in there so a certain "29-year-old" would feel right at home reading my blog. You've gotta throw the old timers a bone every once in awhile.) Shannon's husband Tim and dearly departed Amanda joined us at the game, which made it hysterical as they are both drunks. Side-achingly funny drunks, but glug glug none the less. Everyone was concerned about the clouds that showed up late afternoon, so Tim made it a point to dig around and find some ponchos he had. Finally, someone who is a bigger rain wuss than me and Shannon! He's my kind of people! Well, he was my kind of people until he placed the rolled up ponchos strategically under his jacket after the game and rubbed up against Amanda and I, doing a little drunk dance. Then, him and Amanda proceeded to sashay down the ramp, swinging their hips so far left to right it would...

Okay, here's the deal. I'm from Seattle originally. I love it here. On sunny days, I am utterly convinced that there isn't a more beautiful place in the world than the Puget Sound, and I'm perfectly content to take the days and days of rain necessary to achieve those natural aesthetics. Most of the time. Truth be told, I actually kind of love the rain. I love the smell of it. I love the energy of a big storm before it rolls in. I really enjoy the sound of rain as it falls on the roof and deck. I'm known to open the door and windows a crack to be able to hear it. And it lulls me to sleep to listen to rain trickling down. The rain doesn't prevent me from doing anything I want to do. Honestly, if I waited until the rain stopped to do something, it would never get done. And I'm okay with that. I'm okay with all of that. Most of the time. Some of the time, though... Some of the time I hate the rain. I hate driving in it, but really that's le...

No time for losers, cause we are the champions...

Last post (this week, muwahahaha) about the Sounders. Tear. They won the United States Open Cup (USOC) last season, which is awesome as it was their first season in the MLS and they were able to kick ass and take names. They beat out DC United (or should we say DC Usucktid)in their home stadium 2-1. I remember watching this game on tv and finding it interesting that there was a complete lack of sportsmanship shown by both the opposing team and their fans. Both just got up and walked out of the stadium after the team lost. And I know most people would leave but it is not that hard to show a little courtesy and appreciation for a game well played by spending 5 minutes watching the award ceremony even if the home team loses. There is no reason to bolt out of the stadium as if you had eaten too many chili dogs!

It Rains in Seattle?

Qwest Field. 3.25.10 Sounders vs. Philidelphia Union. It may look a bit overcast in this picture. That does not even begin to explain it. Essentially, there were almost 37,000 of us morons standing around in the pouring rain with the wind gusting off of the water watching two teams slip and slide around the field for 90 minutes. And it was fun. It was loads of fun, minus the soaked-straight-through-to-your-bones feeling. And the "Okay I might not be able to see the field but at least having these people standing directly in front of me is keeping my nipples from protruding through my bra, two layers of shirts and northface jacket" wind. I bet none of you can guess who went home and took a 30 minute blistering hot shower, turned on the heater in their room for the first time in a month and wore sweats and a long shirt to bed. Only 8 more days til the next home game!

Sounders Wave

Image
These folks are some of Sounders Wave, the kick ass band that plays during Sounders games. My friend from h.s. plays on the Wave. That puts him in the "cool" category but only from March to October. (Just kidding!) I've heard they have cool new moves and songs this season, so can't wait to see/hear them, unless it's the macarana and then I revoke the "just kidding."

In honor of the Sounders season opener this week, I am making Wicked Smart wicked awesome with a week o' soccer. Anyone who ever said futbal can't succeed in the US needs to swing by Qwest Field one of these days and see the excitment that brews and explodes during the 90 minutes the Sounders are on the field. This sport has as much of a chance of succeeding as baseball, basketball, american football; it just needs to walk the fine line between spending the money necessary to make a successful league with the world's top talent and not falling into the black hole of bankruptcy. I don't really want to make the blog a soapbox to preach exactly what I think should happen in the MLS or why exactly Americans refuse to embrace it, so I'll leave it at that. But honestly, don't knock it til you've tried it. And good luck getting tickets!
